The European Elections are set for Thursday 4th June. I know it's not possible for everybody to get to a polling station. If you probably won't make it on the day, sign up right now for your postal vote. You can do this at www.aboutmyvote.co.uk. If you're not even on the voting register at the moment, don't worry - you can register on that site as well.

The Lib Dems are in a unique position in these elections - and not just to win new seats. Basically, our approach to Europe is the only one that makes sense in the current economic climate.

Remember the last European elections? No credit crunch, no recession, no meteoric rise in job losses. Most of our banks were still riding high, and Iceland was still one of the safest and juiciest investment centres in Europe.

Now Iceland is pursuing early entry to the Euro to claw itself back to economic health. British workers are striking because EU workers have taken "their" jobs. What a difference a year makes. Isolationist Iceland has had to face up to the weakness in "going it alone". Isolationists in the UK will have to face up to it too.

We just can't solve most of today's biggest problems - on the economy, on the environment and on international security - without European co-operation. It's as simple as that, and it's what the Liberal Democrats have been saying all along.

So get out and vote for us this June. Even better, get it off your to-do list now by signing up for a postal vote !
