If you are not already registered to vote, you have until Tuesday 20th April to register for this year's local elections on May 6th. This is also likely to be the General Election date. All residents aged 18 years and over by 6th May are eligible to vote. As well as the traditional voting method, registered electors have other voting options. These are: Postal voting: The final date for requests for either a new postal vote (you may be working away or on holiday at the time of the election) or to change or cancel an existing postal vote or postal proxy facility is no later than 5.00pm on Tuesday 20th April. Proxy voting: The last day for new requests to vote by proxy (voting on behalf of another registered elector) or to change or cancel an existing proxy vote (except postal proxies and medical emergencies) is no later than 5.00pm on Tuesday 27th April 2010. A voting registration form or application forms for either a postal or proxy vote can be collected from the Elections Office in Stockport Town Hall (entrance in Lacy Street, off Edward Street) from Monday to Friday from 9.00am-5.00pm. People can also phone 0161 217 6026 from Monday to Friday from 8.00am-6.00pm to request a form. Completed forms must be received by the Elections Office by the above dates. Forms can be posted or hand delivered to the Elections Office, or faxed on 0161 474 3029. There is more information on the election on the Stockport Council website at www.stockport.gov.uk/election2010
